Hello, I’m Nerida Jantti (formerly Nerida Cortese), and dance has been my heartbeat since before I could even tie my shoes. Enrolled in dance classes before starting primary school, I turned a childhood passion into a glittering career that spans over three decades. From the vibrant stages of “Battle of the Ballroom,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” and “Dancing With The Stars” in New Zealand, my journey in dance has been nothing short of a whirlwind adventure.

Born in Australia and now proudly representing New Zealand internationally, I’ve competed across the globe—from Singapore to the United Kingdom and beyond—in prestigious Dancesport Competitions. My career on stage began in 1999, captivating audiences with each performance and choreography. My highlight reel includes a runner-up finish on TVNZ’s “Dancing With The Stars” in 2005, alongside Shane Cortese, and leading numerous other celebrities through their dance journeys on the show.

Teaching has been a significant part of my life for over a decade, during which I’ve had the privilege of leading competition classes, social dance lessons, and corporate team-building events. My ability to transform inexperienced dancers into confident performers within tight deadlines is something I take great pride in.

Off the dance floor, I’m a mum to two wonderful boys, Kees and Jett. Kees was diagnosed with autism at the age of two, and Jett battled multiple allergies as a baby.

These experiences have enriched my journey, teaching me resilience and deepening my understanding of family dynamics and health. I openly share our stories to support and connect with others facing similar challenges.

My love for the outdoors echoes my father’s adventurous spirit, who introduced me to skiing, motorbiking, and sailing. Sadly, his passing when I was just 11 left a void, but also a reservoir of strength that I tap into daily. At 14, I discovered ballroom dancing, and by 17, I was training in Sydney, stretching every dollar to cover lessons and travel for competitions.

Previously married to my first dance partner on DWTS, Shane Cortese, in 2009, we cherish every moment with our sons, navigating life with energy, laughter, and love.

When I’m not teaching or performing, you might find me on the golf course, hitting the ski slopes, or cooking up a storm in the kitchen with my partner Steve.

I also relish the opportunities social media offers, bringing dance into the homes of many through platforms like TikTok and Instagram, especially during the lockdowns. My sessions with Jett have become a fan favorite, showcasing our synchronized moves and family fun.

Whether it’s on the dance floor, at home, or out in nature, I live by the motto: Keep moving, keep smiling, and let dance be your guide to joy and connection.
